Job Summary

To understand business requirements, and to provide systems support, development, testing and implementation of viable IT solutions, in order to meet business expectations. The role sits within the IT department, reporting to the Senior Software Engineer, and works closely with computer users, heads of department and managers across the organisation who rely on ICT for their operations.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • National Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, majoring in Software Development

Experience

  • 2 years' experience in systems development

Other

  • Valid Code B Driver's Licence

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis

  • Evaluate and analyse information
  • Build in-depth knowledge of the various systems maintained by the team
  • Translate business problems and/or requirements into viable IT solutions

Systems Analysis

  • Control solutions by drafting technical specifications and working closely with stakeholders to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction
  • Maintain solutions architecture and technical documentation
  • Produce technical effort estimates

Development

  • Code changes, fixes, integrations and new systems (C#.Net Core, Angular, MS-SQL) that run efficiently and securely
  • Build modular and scalable programs optimised for re-use, re-engineering and re-development
  • Maintain standards of good practice using structured, well-documented procedures and source code accompanied by comprehensive documentation
  • Deliver systems which comply with relevant authorities, quality standards and legislation (e.g. POPIA)
  • Develop systems that cater for BCP and DR planning
  • Perform development, unit testing, regression, negative, functional and integration testing
  • Successfully implement new systems, upgrades and system changes
  • Keep up to date with technical and industry developments

Support

  • Deliver services that meet the needs of the business within defined Service Level and Service Availability agreements
  • Provide after-hours support on a rotational basis to resolve incidents within SLA
  • Provide a high level of customer service by analysing customer feedback and proactively adapting the ICT service to meet customer needs

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the achievement of continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement programme

Quality

  • Read and comply with all relevant policies and work instructions, and sign related compliance records
  • Comply with all relevant aspects of the Quality Management System

Safety, Health and Hygiene

  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Safety Work Instructions regarding proper use of personal protective equipment and prevention of accidents and incidents
